Driving Classes For AdultsWe also offer driving classes for adults in addition to the classes we offer for teens. Some of the adult classes we offer are for those who are new to driving. These classes are structured similarly to our teen driving classes. The students will meet with an instructor in a classroom setting first to review driving and traffic laws. After a few classes, the students will schedule in-car driving sessions with their instructor. In these sessions, they will practice driving alongside their instructor. As with our teen driving classes, the instructor will have a second set of controls for the vehicle in the event they are needed. During the in-car sessions, the students will practice driving over various terrains and under different weather and lighting conditions. Some skills the driver will practice include making turns, parking, parallel parking, three-point turns, changing lanes, backing up, and more. The instructor will be there to answer any questions the student has, as well as model correct vehicle operation when needed. The instructor will also talk with the student and ask them questions to ensure that they completely understand the rules of the road. Our driving classes for new adults aim to make a novice driver feel confident about driving on their own in no time.
We have separate classes that we offer for individuals who have been mandated by the court to take a driving class. Sometimes, drivers are required to take a driving class after getting a ticket for speeding, reckless driving, or other vehicular offenses. In these classes, we spend more time in the classroom reviewing the driving laws. Additionally, we discuss why these laws are important, and the consequences of breaking them (both to the driver and to potential bystanders). After a few in-class sessions, the students again are asked to demonstrate the skill and safety in our in-car sessions. These sessions differ from our other in-car sessions in a few key ways. Parts of the in-car sessions are tailored to the driving offense which required the student to take a class. For example, if a student was mandated to take a class due to reckless driving, then we will focus a large amount of our instruction on driving within the speed limit, using a turn signal to change lanes, and leaving ample space behind a car that you are following. Our in-car sessions also include practice with other driving skills that our other in-car classes focus on. The student will still practice other basic driving and parking maneuvers and work with their instructor to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the laws. Additionally, we offer a few voluntary classes for current adult drivers to brush up on and review specific skills and/or laws. These classes are more tailored to the individual needs and requests of the student. For example, if the student shares that they get too nervous changing lanes on the highway with lots of traffic, we will focus our instruction on this. If the student shares that they have been having too much trouble parallel parking in the tight spaces around their office, we will work on practicing parallel parking. Our instructors work closely with the students to help them gain confidence and proficiency in the skills they have seen a need to improve. |
